Whether you live or you are just visiting the city, you have to have the Best Tapas Bars in Barcelona has to offer!
Here are a few of my favorite tapas restaurants in the city.
Please note that when I speak of tapas I also include raciones, which are dishes to share, and somewhat larger than tapas.
El Puestu – A unique find in a surprising neighborhood that’s not exactly famous for its gastronomy.
Go here for comforting tapas made with good quality ingredients.
And the place is cute!
Bormuth – I love Bormuth for a, early Saturday tapas lunch kind of thing.
It has a lot of atmosphere, the tapas are great and it’s not too expensive.
It’s great for a vermouth too if you have lunch plans elsewhere.
They have a few craft beers too if that’s your thing.
La Esquinica – If you want to go off the beaten path, then this place is really worthwhile.
Make sure you go early, you can’t book a table here and there will be a queue.
The origins are from Zaragoza.
Great tapas, and inexpensive too.
Artichoke at Can Maño, Barcelona
Can Maño – You can find groups of older gentlemen here at 10 in the morning, sharing dishes of sardines and drinking straight from a “porron”.
The staff is charming and not much has changed here in the last few decades.
Bar Omar – Casual bar with good seasonal tapas options.
Tapas 24 – The menu consists of dishes to share, there is plenty to choose from and if you’re looking for authentic food then this is definitely it.
The place is small but they also have a terrace outside. It’s not the cheapest tapas place in the city (it has a famous chef), but it’s worth it!
Their truffle “bikini” (cheese and ham sandwich) is one of their signature dishes, so do check that one out.
Old-school interior at Entrepanes Diaz, Barcelona
Entrepanes Diaz – This has been intentionally made old-school even if the place itself isn’t very old.
I feel like I’m transported to a time when I wasn’t even born yet.
The staff is dressed in bowties and these guys are professionals: they’ve been hired with many, many, many years of experience.
The menu is long and interesting, don’t leave without trying the bocata de calamares (squid sandwich) or the Antxón, a sandwich with chistorra, egg (a very runny one, mmmmhh) and string fries.
The patatas bravas are excellent too.
Bar Cañete – Seafood is in focus at this very popular restaurant in the Raval.
It’s not the cheapest, but the quality is very good.
They have a hidden dining room should you be interested.
Make sure you book in advance!
El Quim de la Boqueria – Inside the Boqueria market there is a bar that is always busy with hungry customers.
The tapas are delightful and Quim himself can often be seen there, serving up tasty dishes.
Many local chefs come here for a quick early lunch.
Bar Bodega l’Electricitat, Barcelona
Bar Bodega l’Electricitat – Another gem in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, where you can get wine straight from the barrel and share tasty tapas.
Quimet y Quimet – A classic.
It’s always packed and it might be quite touristy, but don’t let that scare you off.
This is a place you go to have a glass of cava or wine (they have many too choose from) and a tapa or two.
There’s so seating so be prepared to stand.
The salmon tapa is a classic.
Bar Mut – This place is a proper restaurant, and a very romantic one too for that matter.
It’s not the cheapest, but the solomillo con foie and the egg carpaccio are really worth it.
Be sure to book in advance! Read my review here.
Paco Meralgo – Good quality tapas in a neighborhood where it sometimes can be difficult to find nice restaurants.
Bar Lobo – Just next to the Ramblas this tapas bar is always busy, and frequented by plenty of tourists. But the quality is good, and they have a nice terrace if you’d like to catch some sun too.
Bravas del Bambarol
Bambarol – I love this place!
The owners and the staff are young and enthusiastic, and the menu has a little twist to it too.Great tapas and not expensive.
Llamber – Beautiful restaurant, and great food.
They suggest you share everything, and that’s what tapas are all about, right?
Cervecería Catalana – This restaurant is very popular among tourists, but they do good tapas and have many to choose from.
There is often a queue (you can’t book a table), but the place is big so usually you don’t have to wait for long.
Cal Pep – Another classic.
If you’re into seafood then you must go here.
There’s a bar at the entrance, or you can get a table in the dining room in the back. Everything is delicious, and the waiters are friendly and funny. There’s often a queue here too.
Mont Bar – One of my favorite restaurants.
The menu is seafood-focused, it looks like any tapas menu but the dishes are all very special.
The decor of the place is nice too, and they have a little terrace outside. Some of the tables are quite close to each other, so it’s better to go early if you want to have a very secret private conversation..!
La Cova Fumada – A classic, and one of my all time favorites.
There isn’t even a sign on the door, and the hours are a bit weird, but it’s so worth the effort to go here.
Excellent, fresh tapas, friendly service, inexpensive, and very old school. You can’t book a table here, so go early.
La Bombeta – Another classic in the Barceloneta neighbourhood. Good quality tapas. There can be a queue so go early.
Solomillo con foie at Vaso de Oro
Vaso de Oro – You might have to eat standing here (there aren’t many tables), but that’s what most people do because the solomillo con foie is really worth it.
They brew their own beer, too.
Bar Mundial – In the Born you can find this very old-school tapas place with mostly seafood dishes.
The walls are covered with pictures of men boxing, a long, long time ago.
Bodega Quimet – ¿Are you sure you want to try Best Tapas in Barcelona ? This old bodega is located in Gracia, and it fills up in the evenings with people drinking a caña or a glass of wine and sharing some cured meats or cheeses.
Great atmosphere!
Duck Cannelloni at Antúnez, Barcelona
Antúnez – Tasty gourmet style tapas and dishes to share, in a friendly laid-back atmosphere.
It feels like a neighborhood restaurant where you go with family and friends.
I really love the duck and foie canelón and the gorgonzola and pear croqueta. For sure one on the main Best Tapas in Barcelona
Extra Bar – On Torrent de l’Olla in Gracia there is a tiny little place where the cool kids hang out and where tapas are made with a creative twist.
Can Paixano – A true classic.
Many go here for the dirt cheap (and tasty) cava, but in order to get the cava you have to ask for tapas too.
They might be simple but they are so tasty!
The restaurant gets very busy, so come very early (breakfast time) or don’t mind the crowd and just find yourself a little corner.
They have a little shop too where you can buy cava and tins of yummy seafood.
